Take back the night.I posted this under "Women and women's issues" but I thought I hsould post it here as well.Anyone in the Calgary area who would like to join in is welcome. This year the theme is "Silence is Violence", featuring Sandra Crazybull and the "Do You Know What I Mean?" photo-voice exhibit on the lived experience of sex trade workers. The Take Back The Night march symbolizes women's commitment to stopping the epidemic of violence against women in families, workplaces, communities. We hope to create change through community building and inspire a new generation to rise-up and stop the cycle of violence. The march will be held Saturday September 13th, 2008. The rally starts at 7:30pm at Central Memorial Park (4th Street and 12th Avenue SW) and we will march at 8:00pm - 9:30pm. The march is inclusive to all women, trans-gendered persons, and children. Men are welcome to attend the rally and are asked to line the march route as a symbolic show of support for women marching unescorted through the street. |
